Mukambi Safari Lodge
Mukambi Safari Lodge is relatively close to Lusaka (270km on a good tar road), making it an easy destination. Mukambi is open all year round, and during the green season is the only lodge open to guests in the northern and central part of the Kafue National Park.
The main lodge with its huge thatched roof has four large wooden decks right on the riverfront from which guests can observe the animals while drinks are served. The restaurant is situated on one of the large decks. There are two swimming pools in the green lush garden for those hot summer days, and for the cooler eveings there is a large fireplace where guests can warm themselves after a night game drive.
All accomodation is positioned along the river. There are 8 en-suite chalets, one of which is a family unit with 2 bedrooms both en-suite, a fully furnished living room and an extensive deck overlooking the river. There are also 4 luxury tents. This is Mukambi's most luxurious accommodation, with each unit situated privately surrounded by natural riverine bush. Each one has a private deck with a freestanding bath tub in which guests can soak after a long day of activities.
Although Mukambi Safari Lodge is not situated in the park, all the animals found in the park are also found in the Game Management Area. Only a river separates Mukambi from the central Kafue National Park. Mukambi is unfenced and attracts a variety of animals. Most people have heard of our resident hippo, Basil, and there are warthog, antelope, hyena, elephant, lion and leopard that visit the camp, particularly during the dry winter months. Security officers accompany all guests to their chalets at night but guests are welcome to walk on their own within the lodge grounds during the day.
Game drives, walking safaris, sunset cruises, boat and fishing trips are all on offer for guests to get out and see the wonderful wild life in the Park.
